Visit to this year’s TEFAF in Maastricht

At this year’s edition of what is perhaps the most beautiful art fair in the world, fantastic works from prehistory and early history to the present day could once again be admired. Perhaps the oldest work at the fair was a small, beautifully preserved Cycladic figurine, while at the same time you could find a very contemporary hair portrait by Simone Haack at Galerie Bastian from Berlin.

Otherwise, the changes in the European art market continued to be visible. Visitors from overseas were rare and the number of visitors from Asia increased. Overall, however, it is a very European event.

And female artists were represented at almost every stand: Rediscoveries like Marie Bracquemond (1840-1916) or (for me) new discoveries like Emily Kam Kngwarray (1914-1996), well-known artists such as Marie Laurencin (1883-1956) or Sophie Delaunay-Terk (1885-1979) and last but not least contemporary artists like Xenia Hausner (pictured above, *1951) or Simone Haack (*1978) could be found at galleries from all over Europe.
